The 2025 Toyota 4Runner is all-new and rides on Toyota's TNGA-F global platform, which is also home to rugged SUVs and trucks like the Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Tacoma, and Tundra. This rugged platform uses a high-strength boxed steel ladder frame for increased durability. The multi-link coil rear suspension and double-wishbone front suspension contribute to its off-road ability.
However, the platform is more than just excellent off-road; it adds to the 4Runner's on-road manners. The stronger frame and the new i-Force Max powertrain allow the 4Runner to tow up to 6,000 pounds.
Rugged Athleticism to Go Anywhere
The Toyota 4Runner is inextricably linked to fun outdoor recreation. This four-door SUV is inspired by everything that makes going off-road exciting. Although the 4Runner strongly resembles the Tacoma, it has its own unique styling cues. Some retro touches were added, including the roll-down rear window and wrap-over quarter glass. Second-row tumble seats increase the Toyota SUV's versatile interior and maximize floor space for cargo.
Powerful and Efficient Powertrains in the 2025 Toyota 4Runner
The new generation of the 4Runner features two powerful and efficient engines with the turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder that makes 278 horsepower paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, and Limited trims come standard with this engine.
The i-Force Max hybrid powertrain comes standard on the TRD Pro, Trailhunter, and Platinum trims. This powertrain uses a hybrid system with a 2.4-liter gas engine and a 48-horsepower electric motor. The combination is good enough for 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, which is the most power ever on a 4Runner.
Trail Ready 4Runner
The 2025 Toyota 4Runner raises the bar on an already incredible legacy. A new stabilizer bar disconnect mechanism allows you to simply push a button and get more suspension articulation. This allows the 4Runner to flex while still maintaining tire contact with the trail.
A Multi-Terrain Monitor system puts trail information at your fingertips to help avoid off-road hazards. The 4Runner comes in 2WD, part-time 4WD, or full-time 4WD. The 4WD 4Runner features an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case and Active Traction Control.
